The Pilot Plant Technician must be experienced in designing, building, and operating new laboratory equipment and pilot units. The researcher should be skilled in developing and following existing analytical methods and performing analyses needed for investigations. Individual must have the ability to document results, make recommendations based upon data generated along with maintaining detailed lab notebooks to develop new technologies, and support the patent application processes.

Requirements

  • Normally requires an associate’s degree in Chemistry with 2-4 years’ experience working in QC or other types of lab environments.
  • Must have mechanical skills to build and maintain laboratory equipment (glass and metal).
  • Needs proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding the setup and use of process control software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow existing analytical methods & run analyses using various wet chemistry equipment, and identify areas of improvement if required
  • Build and operate glass and metal laboratory systems
  • Maintain and operate prototype pilot plants within guidelines provided by the technical staff
  • Schedule and execute instrument calibrations
  • Perform field sampling and analyses (on-the-job training is required for this item)
  • Keep detailed laboratory records
  • Perform QC checking on product with proper records retention
  • Ensure continued laboratory compliance with MECS ISO and safety, health and environmental policies
  • Make recommendations based upon data generated and operation of equipment
