About The Position

As a Pipefitter II, you'll take on increased independence in commercial mechanical service and installation, handling routine to moderately complex piping tasks for wet-side HVAC systems (hydronic heating, chilled water, domestic water, process piping) in office buildings, hospitals, schools, and industrial facilities. Building on entry-level skills, you'll perform repairs, replacements, layout, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting with growing confidence, while assisting senior pipefitters on advanced jobs and beginning to guide Level I team members. Our people-first culture supports your mid-level progression with hands-on training, certifications, mentorship, and clear advancement opportunities, enabling you to develop expertise and contribute to safe, reliable, and sustainable piping systems nationwide.

Requirements

  • Experience: 3–5 years in piping installation, repair, maintenance, or construction (commercial/industrial or HVAC/wet-side preferred); demonstrated ability to work independently on routine to moderately complex tasks.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; trade school, vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; welding/brazing certification (e.g., AWS) a plus; OSHA 10/30-hour certification encouraged (company support provided).
  • Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field-based in commercial/industrial settings (indoor/outdoor, mechanical rooms, rooftops, varying weather); exposure to noise, dust, heights, welding hazards, chemicals, and confined-space risks; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable. This is a safety-sensitive position. Occasional regional travel within assigned market or on-call rotations may be required as business needs dictate.
  • Proficient pipefitting techniques (threading, grooving, fitting, welding/brazing basics, pressure testing, leak detection).
  • Blueprint reading, layout, and interpretation of piping drawings/specs.
  • Safety awareness (OSHA 10/30 preferred), teamwork, and effective communication with crew, foremen, and customers.
  • Troubleshooting and repair of routine wet-side systems (hydronic, chilled/hot water, domestic).
  • Documentation/reporting, multitasking, and eagerness to learn advanced piping/HVAC concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Independently repair, replace, and maintain piping systems, pipe supports, valves, strainers, pumps, and related equipment for commercial heating, cooling, and hydronic applications.
  • Perform layout, cutting, threading, grooving, fitting, welding/brazing (as qualified), and assembly of piping per blueprints, specifications, and codes with increasing independence.
  • Conduct pressure testing, leak detection, flushing, system checks, and basic balancing to ensure performance, safety, and compliance.
  • Assist in (and increasingly lead portions of) advanced installations, modifications, and troubleshooting; coordinate with other trades for sequencing and integration.
  • Lead standard service/repair calls: assess on-site issues, communicate with customers about problems/solutions/timelines, coordinate parts/materials, execute work, and follow up for satisfaction.
  • Document work accurately (work orders, service reports, photos, as-builts, recommendations) and maintain records for billing, warranty, and quality tracking.
  • Mentor Level I pipefitters by demonstrating techniques, safety practices, and best methods; assist senior pipefitters (Level III+) on complex tasks.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas, vehicles, tools, and PPE; adhere to all safety protocols, codes, and company standards.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and level, with opportunities for performance incentives and tool allowances where applicable.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus HSA options with employer contributions in select plans, and company-paid basic life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance.
  • Paid time off, holiday pay, and a 401(k) retirement savings plan to support your long-term financial well-being.
  • Professional development through hands-on training, mentorship, apprenticeships, certifications, and clear career advancement paths across our nationwide operating companies.
  • Inclusive, supportive culture that values diversity, dignity, respect, collaboration, integrity, and personal fulfillment—empowering you to build a rewarding, long-term career.
