About The Position

Under general supervision, this position operates construction equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and installation of water mains, valves, fire hydrants, taps, and other aspects of water/sewer systems. Works with a small crew and performs considerable manual labor with the crew as needed. This position must be available to work on a rotating shift, including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.

Requirements

Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent (GED).
A valid Texas Class C Driver's License is required.
Must obtain a Class A Texas Commercial Driver's License within one (1) year from hire date.

Nice To Haves

Experience in water works or utilities preferred.

Responsibilities

Operates equipment to dig in confined areas (streets, alleys, easements, etc.) where other utilities are installed without interruption and/or damage.
Ensures the proper inspection, maintenance, and operation of trucks, trailers, and other various types of assigned equipment.
Assists in the repair and construction of sewer lines, manholes, taps, and helps rod sewer mains.
Works in trenches ranging in depth from 3' to 35' deep, follows all trench shoring procedures, and understands the dangers of working in or around trenches.
Accurately follows oral and/or written instructions.
Accurately reads, interrupts, and understands maps and/or drawings.
Assists crews throughout job tasks.
Properly completes daily job reports.
Responds to 24-hour emergency callouts and rotating shifts when necessary.
Performs manual labor when necessary to assist in the performance of various tasks or other duties as assigned.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
