About The Position

MSD is looking for a Pipefitter Journeyman to join our team! The Pipefitter Journeyman plays a key role in the successful execution of piping projects, bringing both technical expertise and field leadership to every job site. This individual is responsible for planning, installing, repairing, and fitting piping systems for a variety of mechanical equipment, ensuring all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with specifications and safety regulations. Beyond the hands-on work, the Journeyman serves as a mentor to Apprentices, providing guidance, training, and real-time feedback to help develop their skills and ensure work is performed to standard. They work closely with internal teams to prioritize tasks, communicate job requirements, and keep projects moving forward on schedule. With a strong focus on quality and accountability, the Pipefitter Journeyman conducts inspections, tracks labor and material usage, and ensures all tools and equipment are operated safely. This is a role for someone who takes pride in their craft, leads by example in the field, and is committed to delivering high-quality work while helping build a strong, capable team around them. The Pipefitter Journeyman is responsible for planning, installing, and repairing piping systems for mechanical equipment, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with specifications and regulations. This role also provides leadership in the field by guiding and training Apprentices, maintaining quality standards, and supporting overall job site execution through strong communication and accountability.

Requirements

  • Ability to comprehend complex instructions, mechanical drawings, and documents
  • Ability to clearly communicate in written and verbal English
  • Proficient math skills required
  • Able to effectively operate the basic tools required for the trade
  • Advanced knowledge of Pipefitting practices and procedures along with comprehension of welding practices (Mig, Tig, Stick)
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status required
  • High School Diploma or GED or 15 semester (22 quarter) hours college level education
  • 5+ years’ recent experience in piping field
  • Rigging experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a state-sponsored Apprenticeship program preferred
  • Piping/Welding certifications preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plans pipe systems layout, installation, or repair.
  • Attaches piping and associated fixtures to walls, structures, etc., according to plans and specifications.
  • Provides guidance and instruction to designated team members.
  • Communicate with key organizational personnel to establish requirements and priorities.
  • Direct activities of field crew members in accordance with job schedules and established priorities.
  • Train assigned personnel on proper techniques and regulations.
  • Install piping and accessory fixtures following established guidelines and procedures
  • Report labor hours, materials usage and other data as required.
  • Operate required machinery and tools in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all local/state/federal regulations.
  • Conduct quality control inspections to ensure appropriate materials and procedures are used.
  • Maintain proficiency in all skills related to popping installation/removal.
  • Obtain any licensures/certifications as required by organization.
  • Make every reasonable effort to ensure safe practices and get every employee home safely.
