About The Position

The Piping Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for piping and mechanical construction projects. This role evaluates drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop competitive bids while identifying scope requirements, risks, and cost drivers. The Piping Estimator works closely with senior estimators, project management, vendors, and subcontractors to support successful project award and execution.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–7 years of piping or mechanical estimating experience in the construction industry.
  • Working knowledge of piping systems, materials, and installation methods.
  • Experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, PVC, HDPE, and related piping systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (AccuBid,Bluebeam).
  • Ability to read and interpret plumbing drawings, riser diagrams, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with ASME piping codes (B31 series)
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Must be able to travel 80-100% of the time.
  • Primarily office-based with occasional site visits and pre-bid meetings.
  • Fast-paced, deadline-driven preconstruction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed piping cost estimates for commercial and industrial construction projects.
  • Perform material, labor, and equipment takeoffs from piping drawings, isometrics, and specifications.
  • Assist with development of conceptual budgets and ROM estimates.
  • Solicit, review, and tabulate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Analyze scope, specifications, and constructability to identify gaps and clarifications.
  • Assist with preparation of bid proposals, qualifications, and pricing summaries.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and internal estimate reviews.
  • Support project handoff meetings and assist with budget validation.
  • Assist with change order pricing post-award as required.
  • Maintain organized estimating files and historical cost data.
  • Follow company estimating standards and procedures.
