About The Position

Directs the departments of Plant Engineering, Maintenance, Dietary and Housekeeping. Supervises and performs a variety of general mechanical and preventive maintenance as well as inspections, servicing and overhaul of equipment and facilities of the hospital. Responsible for the coordination and management of hospital safety/security programs.

Requirements

  • MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent
  • MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years of hospital/Healthcare related engineering experience with a minimum of 2 years working in a supervisory capacity

Responsibilities

  • Performs and oversees maintenance and repair of all physical plant machinery, cooling, piping and electrical systems and records maintenance in accordance with schedules, policies and regulations
  • Maintains departmental facilities, equipment, supplies and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff
  • Establishes preventive maintenance schedules and prioritizes repair and maintenance work to minimize disruptions of hospital operations
  • Plans for and oversees major repairs, renovation, and new construction. Serves as liaison between hospital and contractor during construction
  • Coordinates the safety/security programs to ensure a safe environment consistent with regulatory, environmental and hospital requirements and needs
  • Functions as Safety/Security Coordinator and as administrative safety advisor at all levels of the hospital
  • Selects, trains/orients, assigns department staff, evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions
  • Develops, recommends and coordinates the implementation of new procedures
  • Inspects, tests, cleans and directs the repair of fire equipment, alarms, switches and sensors
  • Performs routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveways, etc. by cutting, trimming, policing, sweeping, removing snow, etc. as required
  • Performs periodic inspections of buildings and makes recommendations on needed repairs, installation, etc.
  • Performs maintenance of storage sheds; assists various departments with transfer of records to storage
  • Maintains departmental reports and records and collects data for administrative and regulatory purposes as required and/or requested
  • Monitors and inspects work to ensure compliance with codes and regulations
  • Monitors and schedules maintenance of facility vehicles (routine service, tires, repairs, etc.).
  • Maintains harmonious relationships within facility and with co-workers providing support and assistance to ensure quality patient care
  • Participates in rotation of stand-by call and responds according to department policies and procedures
  • Develops and maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
