About The Position

The Plant Manager effectively leads and is accountable for the department, ensuring achievement of safety, quality and productivity and customer service goals and objectives, and providing leadership to supervisors and staff members. Assumes full and complete ownership of the entire department’s continuous improvement process; to create, develop, improve, and document processes, including external elements that are influential to the process. Ensures that all key performance indicators (KPIs) are on track and reported on time; makes performance or resource adjustments as needed to maintain goal achievement. Ensures the accurate and timely use of Prism, the Management Operating System (MOS), and other data systems as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university, and/or training in plastic processing methods such as compression, injection or pultrusion or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 10 years related experience.
  • 10+ years of supervisory experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to create budgets and analyze variances
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with plastic processing methods such as Injection Molding or similar
  • Familiarity with analytical tools such as Power BI
  • Experience in enterprise resource planning (ERP) or MRP software strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System such as Mattec, Plex or Epicor

Responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains a team of motivated, professional, and successful supervisors and staff to accomplish departmental Management Operating System objectives, administer company and departmental policy, and operate a regular continuous improvement program.
  • Establishes clear goals, objectives, and reporting documentation for each team
  • Works closely with the manufacturing and process engineers to propose, monitor and report on Improvement projects within the department.
  • Maintains accurate work process diagrams and descriptions for every element of the department.
  • Maintains work procedures and updates-controlled document files for every task.
  • Conducts regular training based on work processes and procedures.
  • Reports required data in a Management Operating System format, including production, safety, and quality KPI measurements.
  • Establishes annual capacity and production plans regarding molds, machines, materials, labor, and raw material and finished goods inventories that can be tracked to actual.
  • Prepares annual KPI targets based on forecast and business reviews.
  • Challenges and demands measured continuous departmental improvement in safety, productivity, Material Control ,cost reduction, and quality.
  • Prepares Action Plans to correct variances to standards or achieve improvements.
  • Participates in efforts to resolve customer quality complaint issues, address mold and equipment concerns, reduce material variation, and improve processes.
  • Reviews production demand and production plans weekly.
  • Determines labor necessary to meet capacity.
  • Meets work schedule commitments.
  • Develops annual budget for the department; monitors and adjusts purchases and activities to conform to planned expenditures.
  • Participates on MOS process improvement teams (PITs) and other teams as requested.
  • Inspects machines, equipment, and facility to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Manages subordinate supervisors.
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities include interviewing; hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; training; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
  • Occasionally travels to other Cambro locations or vendor sites.
  • Maintain reliable and consistent attendance, including being punctual, and dependable in order to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
  • Execute each essential duty satisfactorily in order to perform job successfully.
  • Follows all safety procedures required in work area, wears PPE as needed, attends all safety meetings, and reports safety issues regarding equipment or unsafe/hazardous conditions.
  • Performs effectively as a team member, able to work well with others, open to receive and give feedback, and treats everyone with respect.
  • Takes ownership of own work and behavior, accepts accountability for own actions, encourages solutions, and communicates status of work/projects.
  • Follow all department quality standards/criteria.
  • Raise concerns and issues to immediate manager.

  • Understands department’s key performance indicators and contributes to achieve these goals both individually and as a team.
