About The Position

Are you looking for a vital role that contributes to public safety and environmental health? The City of Nacogdoches Public Works Department is seeking a dedicated individual to join our Water Utilities Division as a Plant Operator or Trainee in Wastewater Treatment. This is a great opportunity to start a career in municipal utilities! Prior experience is preferred, but not required. We will provide the training you need to succeed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A valid Texas Driver license.
  • The ability to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class D Wastewater License within one (1) year of hire date.
  • (Possession of Class A, B, C or D Wastewater and/or Groundwater License will determine pay rate along with an additional certificate/license pay up to $200.00 per month)
  • Physical ability to perform heavy work (exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally), stand, sit, kneel and work in varies indoor/outdoor environmental conditions, including exposure to chemicals and temperature extremes.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations, safety procedures and permitting requirements.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory tests and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform essential operational, laboratory and maintenance duties for wastewater treatment and groundwater systems.
  • Monitor plant operations, checking equipment like pumps, filters and clarifiers for proper functioning.
  • Collect water samples and perform standard chemical and biological tests.
  • Operate and control systems via computer monitoring.
  • Assist with general preventative maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities.
