About The Position

Perform duties in wastewater treatment operations including but not limited to process operation and analysis, equipment maintenance, process sampling and analysis, and various cleaning duties. Work is performed in a team environment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• State of Michigan Class D Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification - must be obtained within two available attempts.
• Hazardous Materials Response certification
• Annual Skills Assessment
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License
• Ability to work irregular hours, commute to GLWA facilities and worksites, and respond to after-hour emergencies and on-call responses.

Responsibilities

• Relocate equipment as directed with manual labor and where applicable using standard industrial equipment.
• Operate basic wastewater plant equipment and process
• Assist in loading, unloading, and mixing of chemicals, bulk chemicals, polymers, etc. manually and/or utilizing motorized equipment.
• Clean up chemical leaks and/or spills in contained areas while donning the proper PPE.
• Assist Operations and Maintenance in prep and cleanup of various activities. Work may include cleaning and support activities within confined spaces and/or in adverse weather/field conditions.
• Skim, washdown, drain, clean tanks and channels.
• Perform preventative maintenance and CLAIR (clean, lubricate, adjust, inspect, and repair) tasks
• Follow safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties
• Complete mandatory training requirements
• Perform related work duties as assigned
• Provide on-the-job training or peer-on-peer training
• Collect and monitor process and equipment performance data; clean monitoring equipment as necessary.
• Make rounds to inspect and monitor various wastewater treatment facilities and equipment.
• Responsible for detecting possible equipment malfunctions and taking appropriate response actions.
• Diagnose, maintain, and assist with repairs on a variety of wastewater treatment plant equipment, pumps, conveyors, fans, blowers, tanks, filters, and other associated wastewater treatment plant processing equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities
• Perform sampling and basic testing and analysis for process needs and record data in spreadsheet format.
• Demonstrate an understanding of assets, their parameters, criticality, and failure modes by completing asset related work with a maintenance technician.
• Maintain various records including shift logs; prepare reports as directed; and complete necessary process training courses.
• Ability to perform data entry in spreadsheets accurately and efficiently.
• Use Ovation (DCS) as a primary tool to monitor and control the process to meet the goals of the area safely and efficiently.
• Respond and work to perform corrective action in response to Distributed Control Systems (DCS) alarms
• If required, ability to obtain 40hr HAZWOPER Certification and work in disinfection operations.
• Respond to notification of emergency chemical spills, and take appropriate action
• Complete mandatory training requirements
• Independently troubleshoot, test, major equipment and provide assistance in the replacement, repair, rig, assemble, and disassemble of major equipment.
• Analyze results of process control data to make process control adjustments.
• Analyze, diagnose, and perform corrective action in response to Data Distributed Control Systems (DCS) alarms.
• Oversee several plant process areas.
• Provide support for planning and scheduling of work orders.
• Use computer maintenance management system (CMMS) to initiate work requests and track work order progress.
• Assist analysis of plant costs and recommendations for purchase, modification, and preparing budget.
• Lead asset management efforts for ensuring facility reliability (e.g., valve exercising, sump pump testing, instrumentation verification).
• Regularly create a comprehensive work request for team leader review.
• Respond to notification of emergency chemical spills and lead the appropriate action as necessary.
• Complete mandatory training requirements.
