Summary: The Plastic Injection Molding Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting all plastic injection molding processes to ensure efficient, safe, and high quality production. This role partners closely with production, tooling, and engineering teams to troubleshoot molding issues, validate new molds, improve cycle times, and support the launch of new products. The engineer also provides training, technical guidance, and process methodologies to the production team, as referenced in discussions about this role’s support and training responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in plastic injection molding process engineering or a closely related role.
  • Solid understanding of thermoplastics, mold design, and injection molding machinery.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to interpret 2D/3D drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with a mold flow analysis software
  • Ability to work on-site in Portland, Tennessee

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with scientific molding principles (RJG, Decoupled Molding) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize plastic injection molding processes to achieve safety, quality, and productivity targets.
  • Lead process setups, mold trials, and validations for new and existing tooling.
  • Troubleshoot molding defects and equipment issues, providing corrective actions and long term solutions.
  • Collaborate with tooling, maintenance, and production teams to ensure molds, machines, and auxiliary equipment meet operational requirements.
  • Establish and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, parameter sheets, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Analyze scrap, downtime, and efficiency metrics to identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Train and support technicians, operators, and floor leadership in molding best practices—aligning with the intent outlined in related internal communications about engineering support to production teams.
  • Assist in material selection, process qualification, and implementation of engineering changes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
