About The Position

Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis. The Plumber/Steamfitter II performs preventive maintenance by inspecting the plumbing and steam heating systems and replacement of potentially defective parts. Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Active Journeyman Plumbing License required
  • 6 or more years of related work experience as a commercial or industrial plumber/steamfitter
  • Existing ASSE 6040 Medgas certification or to be obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • Backflow Certified required
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Knowledge of state and local plumbing codes
  • Knowledge of NFPA applicable codes
  • Knowledge of steam systems and their operation
  • Ability to perform piping installations on all types and sizes of pipes
  • Knowledge of ligature resistant fixtures
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively
  • Ability to interpret and work from blueprints
  • Knowledge and proper use of different kinds of plumbing and steam fitting tools, (i.e. pipe cutter, threading equipment, and various types of wrenches).
  • Ability to work from ladders and scaffolds
  • Ability to solder, braze and weld
  • Ability to identify and utilize applicable PPE requirements
  • Awareness of Infection Prevention and Control requirements withing a healthcare setting
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge/application of mathematics
  • Communication with leadership prior to major system shutdowns
  • Ability to use age-appropriate communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversite to unlicensed plumbers on staff
  • Utilizes the Work Order system to document progress and create new work orders.
  • Responsible for conducting complex preventive maintenance by inspection of the plumbing and steam heating systems and replacement of potentially defective parts
  • Checks for repairs and stoppages, breaks, leaks in waste lines, water lines, vent, steam and/or return lines to ensure proper operation and maintenance
  • Repairs/installs plumbing fixtures, (i.e. wash basins, sinks, toilets, valves, faucets, pressure regulator valves, water heaters, hot and cold-water piping, sewer piping, steam piping and insulation)
  • Responsible for maintaining and repairing supplemental disinfection systems
  • Repairs double containment piping and monitoring systems
  • Maintains and repairs chilled water systems within the building
  • Replaces and repairs worn or defective parts on kitchen equipment, (i.e. point of use hot water heaters, dishwashers, and garbage disposals)
  • Removes/inspects sump pumps, replaces worn parts, repacks glands and corrects misalignment
  • Installs/maintains all vacuum, oxygen, nitrogen, sterilizers, control, nitrous oxide lines, and automatic fire protection sprinkler system
  • Troubleshooting of water and steam system issues, including testing of pumps and motors as well as unit controls
  • Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
  • Responsible for obtaining quotes for parts or repair services
  • Maintains repair part inventory
  • Use of communication devices including but not limited to cell phone, handheld radios or email
