About The Position

Wilkes University invites applicants for a Plumbing/HVAC Technician in the Preventative Maintenance Department. This position is a vital part of our Facilities Management team, ensuring the safety, comfort, and operational efficiency of all University buildings and systems. The successful candidate is responsible for installing, modifying, maintaining, repairing, and replacing plumbing systems and equipment; inspecting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on heating and air conditioning systems, Energy Management Systems, and appliances throughout the University; and supporting predictive and preventative maintenance of mechanical, carpentry, and plumbing systems. This position requires on-call availability with reasonable response time and may include seasonal snow removal duties.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate and completion of a vocational or trade school program; or any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities for successful performance
  • Three (3) years of job-related experience
  • Journeyman Plumbing License or EPA Refrigerate Certification (Type III or Universal)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Understanding of heating and cooling systems, mechanical and electrical systems, small appliances and refrigeration equipment, and Energy Management Systems
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, building plans, and manufacturers' specifications
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly

Responsibilities

  • Performing routine and preventative maintenance on plumbing and HVAC systems and equipment
  • Responding to and prioritizing requests for plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, and control systems repair, maintenance, modifications, and installations
  • Analyzing University plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, appliances, and Energy Management control systems to provide modification and PM schedule recommendations
  • Planning and organizing routine and non-routine work to ensure timely completion of projects and tasks
  • Providing emergency repairs and on-call service as necessary
  • Assisting with seasonal outdoor tasks including snow removal
