Requirements

  • Polysomnography Tech High School or GED
  • BLS certification required at the time of hire.
  • Clinical Polysomnography program within 90 days of employment.
  • Graduated from an accredited educational program described in section 5 of the Polysomnographic Practice Act.
  • Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT) required to obtain within 2 years of employment
  • NM Polysomnographic Temporary Permit required.
  • Or, Completion of Accredited educational program accredited by NBRC - National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • NM Respiratory Therapist license (RRT or CRT)
  • Polysomnography Tech I High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of Accredited educational program accredited by NBRC - National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • NM Respiratory Therapist license (RRT-SDS or CRT-SDS) with the option to obtain RPSGT in 2 years
  • BLS required.
  • Polysomnography Tech II High School or GED
  • Completion of Accredited educational program accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
  • Passed the national certifying examination given by the board of registered polysomnographic technologists (BRPT), RPSGT credential as defined by the New Mexico Practice Act and NM Polysomnography license.

Responsibilities

  • All Polysomnographic Technician duties.
  • Scores sleep studies.
  • Assists with the development/revision of Sleep Center policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with Sleep Center physicians regarding their patients and/or testing procedures.
  • Assists with training of Polysomnographic Trainees and Technicians, including overseeing testing performance.
  • Assists with Quality Monitoring.
  • Orders supplies.
  • Teaches patient PAP classes, as needed.
  • Performs as Charge Tech i.e. workload assignment, decision-making, end of shift report.
  • Assists with patient compliance program, as needed, including making patient follow-up contacts.
  • Attends inservices and meetings as required.
