About The Position

The Port Operations Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth movement of products through the Wilmington port channel. The incumbent will enhance product workflow by analyzing and developing logistics plans that support production schedules, distribution needs, and inventory accuracy. The Port Operations Specialist serves as a central point of coordination between port partners, third-party logistics providers, carriers, and internal teams to resolve issues related to inventory, production, and scheduling.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or equivalent experience.
  • 1 - 3 years related experience
  • Knowledge of D365, EPort, IPOS, Tranship, and Third-Party Railcar websites.
  • Knowledge of Port procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Word).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple operational issues simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills - oral and written
  • Climb stairs and traversing uneven surfaces
  • Sit, walk, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Work in a warehouse setting or field locations
  • Includes working around heavy equipment such as forklifts, tow-motors, etc.
  • Occasionally be exposed to wet and /or humid conditions.
  • Ability to work on vessels and loading docks.
  • Noise level of the environment is often loud.
  • Use computer(s), communication and related equipment and software effectively.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the port operations for Dole Purchasing and Dole Sales Team for issues related to damaged or missing inventory, railroad deliveries, and issues with production load scheduled.
  • Provide operational oversight to third-party logistics and administrative partners responsible for managing paper workflows and demurrage tracking.
  • Maintain and update operational logs, shipment trackers, and documentation systems to ensure data accuracy, improve visibility, and support audit readiness.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate performance metrics and compliance standards pertaining to Rail Demurrage cost savings.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify operational bottlenecks and recommend process improvements that enhance workflow efficiency across port operations.
  • Monitor, analyze, and proactively manage railcar dwell times and invoicing to minimize demurrage exposure.
  • Implement best practices and utilized automated tools to increase visibility and accuracy in demurrage data.
  • Drive continuous improvement of paper-based and digital documentation processes to streamline workflows, enhance data accuracy, and reduce financial liabilities.
