Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in physical oceanography or relevant field
  • Proven ability to formulate scientific hypotheses, conduct rigorous analyses, and clearly communicate scientific results and conclusions in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Persistent, resourceful, precise, respectful, open and inclusive.
  • Skill in collecting, organizing, analyzing, and visualizing oceanographic data.
  • Skill in clear communication of complex ideas
  • Ability to recognize and solve challenging problems, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting research on specific areas of study, both on a computer and aboard ship, as assigned.
  • Preparing technical reports and scientific papers for publishing.
  • Maintaining and applying a substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art observations, principles and theories.
  • Developing tools and code to conduct advanced analyses of ocean and atmosphere datasets.
  • Adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
