About The Position

The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company’s products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities. This position will allow the Student to assist with computer-based logistical pre-launch activities for innovative programs. Position could include on-line training coordination, database maintenance, and helping to launch new technologies. Student would assist with the monitoring of several other key logistical and supply management elements to insure perfect launch of various platforms. In this position, the Student will have the opportunity to work with upper-level management and enhance their leadership skills. Student would be asked to complete other miscellaneous tasks as they arise.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be attending a 4-year university local to Saginaw.
  • Candidate must be pursuing a degree in Engineering Electrical Engineering preferred Mechanical Engineering Other Engineering Acceptable
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Up to 40 in the summer
  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Hands-on Electrical/Mechanical Experience is preferred
  • General competency in mechanical, electronics, and or thermals is preferred
  • Background in automotive (steering, and suspension) is preferred
  • Problem solving techniques
  • Strong organization and documentation abilities

  • Self-Starter
  • Computer skills preferred (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and CAD)
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Assist Product Engineers in daily job duties
  • Perform Tests on EPS Circuit Card Assemblies/Controllers/Powerpacks
  • Complete press fit studies for EPS motor and components.
  • Summarize Press Study test data
  • Present presentations to Powerpack/Controller Engineers
  • Develop an understanding of EPS Powerpacks to perform tests and assist Engineers
  • Develop Communication skills needed in a professional environment
  • Develop Mechanical Design skills utilizing Design for Six Sigma (DSS)
  • Design for Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA)
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Develop Networking skills to work with others to get tasks completed
  • Complete manual assembly/dis-assembly of powerpack and motors
