About The Position

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Pre/Post-Op Registered Nurse (RN) to join our surgical team. This role is critical in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the perioperative process. The ideal candidate will demonstrate clinical expertise, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety and compliance.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the state of Florida
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred and must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • Minimum 2 years of perioperative or surgical nursing experience preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing departmental needs and flex work hours as required

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient status upon admission to pre-op, operating room, and post-op areas
  • Deliver safe, therapeutic care using the nursing process and evidence-based practices
  • Coordinate nursing interventions to support expected outcomes and discharge readiness
  • Document all care activities and patient responses accurately and timely
  • Administer conscious sedation and monitor sedated patients, ensuring airway protection and safety
  • Identify and mitigate safety hazards for sedated/anesthetized patients (e.g., equipment, temperature, privacy)
  • Maintain competencies in aseptic technique, universal precautions, and surgical safety principles
  • Participate in pre/post-op phone calls and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Communicate patient conditions to surgeons, anesthesia providers, management, and staff
  • Carry out physician orders promptly and accurately
  • Educate patients and families, assessing readiness and understanding
  • Serve as a mentor and role model to nursing and ancillary staff
  • Participate in staff orientation and ongoing education initiatives
  • Stay current on federal/state laws, accreditation standards, and professional regulations
  • Submit required reports in a timely manner
  • Recommend and help implement policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Adhere to all confidentiality, infection control, OSHA, and safety standards
  • Support AIASC’s regulatory certifications and accreditation efforts
  • Respond to emails and communications efficiently
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including PolicyStat education and Safety Officer responsibilities
