Job Purpose Execute the predictive maintenance program, including vibration analysis, lube oil analysis, transformer fluid analysis, infrared thermography, ultrasound, flow monitoring, and machine balancing and alignment. Forecast machine faults and failures to so measures can be taken to repair the defective conditions before the problems cause unplanned downtime. Specific Responsibilities Execute the predictive maintenance program, including the following: Work with Technical Superintendent for the various segments of the Predictive Maintenance program. Maintain the vibration analysis software and equipment, collect, and analyze vibration data, and make necessary machine maintenance recommendations. Work with the Generation Electricians to monitor the condition of the electrical equipment through infrared thermography and transformer insulating fluid testing. Maintain the electric motor maintenance program, evaluating motors throughout the year for possible degradation. Work with Generation Maintenance to ensure equipment is properly aligned and balanced. Perform other tests as needed, such as flux probe testing and partial discharge analysis on MPW Generators. Manage the oil analysis program, working with Generation Maintenance to decide what equipment needs to be sampled, and making necessary machine maintenance recommendations and PM frequency adjustments. Setup and manage flow monitoring on pumping equipment. Setup and manage the ultrasound program, establishing routes and frequencies of inspections. Work with departments throughout the Utility to identify opportunities to apply predictive maintenance concepts, fine-tune preventative maintenance routines, and apply best practices. Other Responsibilities Maintain a culture of safety within the department. Support the Utility's safety programs, complete training appropriate for the position, and provide safe working conditions and practices. Maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the department. Utilize lean principles and other continuous improvement tools in an effort to maximize the efficiency of the department. Complete of all required annual training. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge High school graduate or equivalent. Associates degree in a maintenance or technical area of study preferred. Five years of power plant operations or maintenance experience or industrial mechanical maintenance. Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all audiences. Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships and promote a team atmosphere. Proficiency with use of computers, including email, calendar, Internet browsers, and the Microsoft Office suite of products at an intermediate level. Proficient with a computerized maintenance management system, including the ability to retrieve equipment data, repair history and spare part information. Must be proficient in math, including basic algebra and trigonometry. Good problem identification, analysis, and solving skills, including the ability to identify the ramifications of actions taken. Abilities Ability to work as part of a team, either as team leader or a member of a team. Ability to drive results and ensure work is accomplished properly, safely, and in a timely manner. Ability to work independently, effectively prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adjust work priorities as needed to meet department/organizational objectives. Must have mechanical aptitude and be comfortable working with power tools of all sizes. Must be able to work from heights and open grating and climb continuous flights of stairs. Ability to develop, read, and interpret drawings, schematics, specifications, and technical manuals. Ability to distinguish colors. Other Position Requirements Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to attend work on a regular basis, work overtime as needed, and participate in a rotating stand-by schedule. Must be able to comply with the requirements of the Respiratory Protection Program. Must maintain a method of communication in order to be contacted by MPW outside normal work hours. Work Environment Work environment is primarily in an industrial coal-fired power plant. Work may be completed in all weather and conditions. Must be able to climb ladders and work from elevated platforms or bucket trucks for extended periods under various types of weather/seasonal conditions.
