About The Position

A. Primary Duties of the Role Oversee all aspects of department operations, including production, scheduling, staffing, ordering, inventory, merchandising, and customer service. Supervise, train, and support Prepared Foods and Coffee Bar/Bakery staff to ensure high performance, quality, and teamwork. Manage department labor and expenses to meet financial targets, while balancing service, staff wellbeing, and co-op values. Ensure compliance with food safety standards, health regulations, and internal policies. Use Microsoft Teams to check department messages, store/unit updates, and co-op-wide news. Post, respond and moderate as needed to support clear and respectful communication among all employees. Work shifts alongside staff to support department operations and model expectations. Develop new products and offerings in coordination with the Merchandising team and Food House Executive Chef. Respond to customer feedback and resolve complaints with professionalism. Participate in store-level leadership and serve as Manager on Duty. Collaborate with other department managers and teams to improve storewide effectiveness. Maintain accurate records and contribute reports or presentations as needed. Perform other duties as assigned to support the store and Weaver Street Market as a whole. B. Safety and Sanitation: Ensure all food safety and sanitation procedures are consistently followed. Train staff on best practices, maintain compliance with health regulations, and uphold a clean and safe work environment. Communication: Share information clearly and professionally across multiple channels and audiences. Encourage open dialogue and active listening. Financial Knowledge: Understand and monitor department financials, including margins, sales, labor management, and inventory controls. Use financial data to inform decisions and drive improvement. Collaboration: Work effectively across departments and with Support teams to achieve shared goals and deliver consistent customer experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Culinary or cooking school certification or equivalent experience required
  • 1 year of management experience in food service required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and inventory or POS systems
  • 3+ years of experience in a deli, kitchen, or related retail operations
  • A working knowledge of English is required for this customer-facing role
  • Must be 18 years or older

Nice To Haves

  • Some college with business or hospitality focus or equivalent experience
  • Experience in cooperative or community-based retail
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, labor management, health inspections and kitchen operations
  • Familiarity with inventory systems, scheduling tools, and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and/or Paycom applications
