About the position

At St. Thomas More Preschool, our goal is to offer our students a positive and enjoyable experience that will allow them to grow intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Our school gives special attention to the developmental stages, skills and needs of each child while encouraging and nurturing his or her God-given abilities. The program has been carefully developed for the enrichment of the whole child and is fully licensed by the State of Texas. The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, supervise, and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum for the class in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school.
  • Adjust the daily operating program to the needs of the individual children with concern for their interests, special talents, and individual style and pace of learning.
  • Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, décor, and learning environment of the classroom.
  • Plan and prepare the learning environment, set up interest centers, and prepare needed material and supplies.
  • Assume an equal share of joint housekeeping responsibilities with the class assistant.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings and age-level meetings.
  • Participate in recommended training programs, courses, and other aspects of professional growth (24 hours of continuing education).
  • Plan and implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with the parents of the students.
  • Assist in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children.
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including the playground and cafeteria.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Passion to influence the lives of pre-school children.
  • Patience in lovingly meeting young learners' spiritual, academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
  • Patience in accepting guidance and assignments from the classroom teacher.
  • High school diploma.
  • Working with young children is preferred.
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
