Press Lead - Flexo Web - Day Shift (5 Day/8 Hour)
About The Position
Responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and consistent day-to-day operation of the flexographic printing press by reinforcing established operating procedures and assisting operators on the floor. The Printing Lead works closely with the press crew to help maintain stable press performance, support troubleshooting efforts, assist with training and onboarding, and ensure standard work and processes are being followed. This role serves as a technical resource within the department and helps support continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining smooth daily operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Minimum of 5 years of flexographic printing experience, with demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to support operators, reinforce standard operating procedures, assist with troubleshooting, and help maintain consistent press performance in a production environment.
- Must have basic computer skills and possess the ability to utilize software.
- Must have mechanical ability and skills.
- Must have the ability to read and understand documents, job instructions, and procedures and write legibly in English.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and understand directions in English as required.
Nice To Haves
- Folding carton industry experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Supports press operators with press setup, job changeovers, and troubleshooting during production runs.
- Assists in ensuring press operations follow established standards including blade setup, ink viscosity, and pH control, approved anilox selection, and startup/shutdown procedures.
- Monitors press performance and help identify and correct issues affecting quality, efficiency, or safety.
- Reviews job tickets and production schedules to ensure proper preparation of materials including inks, printing plates, proofs, and job jackets are available prior to production.
- Assists with performing quality checks before, during, and after production runs to ensure products meet SCT quality standards and customer specifications.
- Communicate effectively with operators, maintenance personnel, supervisors, and quality technicians regarding operational issues, production status, and improvement opportunities.
- Supports the implementation of new systems, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives within the printing department.
- Helps train and support press operators, assistants, and trainees with proper operating procedures, safety practices, and quality standards.
- Operate the press as needed when the primary or secondary operator is unavailable, ensuring production continues safely and efficiently.
- Assists with monitoring and documenting process improvements, including capturing operator feedback and opportunities for operational improvement.
- Ensures the printing area and equipment are maintained in a clean and organized condition in accordance with BRCGS standard and 5S programs.
- Performs routine audit cleaning and preventative maintenance activities as required.
- Consistently follows all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements while actively identifying unsafe conditions or behaviors.
- Utilizes machine downtime in a resourceful manner by assisting with setup, cleanup, department projects, or other operational needs.
