The Principal Cloud FinOps Analyst partners across Cloud Services, Delivery Centers, Architecture & Engineering, Data & Analytics, Finance, Procurement, and vendor management to improve the business value, transparency, predictability, and accountability of cloud spend. Lead the Inform, Optimize, and Operate phases of cloud financial management in line with the FinOps Framework. Set policies, guardrails, and operating routines that improve cost visibility, allocation, forecasting, and optimization execution. Lead and grow a small FinOps team while influencing engineers, architects, product leaders, and finance partners across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years across cloud financial management, cloud engineering/operations, and/or technology-focused finance/FP&A, including 3+ years in FinOps or cloud cost management.
  • Demonstrated success leading a FinOps practice or cloud cost-optimization program in a complex, multi-team environment.
  • Strong understanding of AWS, Azure, and/or GCP billing, pricing models, and cost drivers.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud cost tools, dashboards, and analytics platforms; experience with tools such as Apptio, Cloudability, CSA, ProsperOps, Stacklet, or similar is strongly valued.
  • Advanced analytical capability, including Excel, BI/reporting tools such as Power BI or Tableau, and data querying skills such as SQL.
  • Strong executive communication skills and the ability to translate technical and cost data into clear business narratives.
  • Experience designing and running governance processes such as monthly reviews, quarterly planning, and optimization backlogs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in insurance, reinsurance, or other financial services organizations.
  • Familiarity with FinOps Framework; FinOps Certified Professional preferred.
  • Experience leading cross-functional optimization work tied to modernization, migration, architecture changes, or application rationalization.
  • Comfort influencing without direct authority in a matrixed environment and building alignment among engineering, finance, and business stakeholders.
  • Strategic, data-driven, pragmatic, and continuous-learning mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve the FinOps strategy, roadmap, policies, standards, exceptions, and governance cadence aligned to technology and corporate financial goals.
  • Lead monthly cloud cost and budget reviews, savings and optimization reporting, and executive-ready updates for senior leadership and CIO staff.
  • Maintain a service-based cost allocation model and improve tagging, metadata quality, and showback/chargeback readiness across cloud environments.
  • Partner with Data & Analytics and Finance to deliver dashboards, invoice reconciliation, budget variance reporting, unit-cost views, and cloud forecasts.
  • Build and manage an enterprise optimization backlog using automated governance tools, engineering input, usage analytics, and vendor recommendations.
  • Validate opportunities with engineers, ensure pre- and post-measurement of implemented changes, and maintain a savings ledger with monthly, quarterly, and annual run-rate impact.
  • Own the FinOps tooling ecosystem and improve automation for cost ingestion, normalization, anomaly detection, and policy monitoring.
  • Support cloud and SaaS contract strategy by providing data-driven guidance on commitments, discount programs, reserved capacity, renewals, and consolidation opportunities.
  • Lead FinOps enablement through workshops, training, operating playbooks, and mentoring of analysts and future cost-optimization engineers.
