We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision-making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Every day, more than 10 million tests are run on Abbott’s diagnostics instruments, providing lab results for millions of people. What You’ll Work On In this role, you will manage all aspects of a large scale and complex project, from start to finish, so that it is completed on time and within budget.

Requirements

  • Experience in delivering products for the Medical Device industry.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems and/or software development involving interoperability of connected devices.
  • Bachelor of Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience (MS preferred).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Rhapsody integration engine such as Envoy and etc.
  • Experience with hospital EMR systems such as (Epic or Cerner).
  • Experience with healthcare middleware system such as RALS; Telcore and others.
  • Experience with communications: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, wireless, Bluetooth, TCP/IP, communication stacks.
  • Experience testing communication interfaces between devices on both wired and wireless networks.
  • Experience with testing of healthcare communication protocols (e.g. HL7, POCT1A, ADT, FHIR).
  • Experience with network protocols, integration and integration testing, and cybersecurity
  • Proficient with Medical Device regulations (ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 62304, 21 CFR part 820.30-Design Controls, FDA SW Guidelines…).
  • Master of Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in delivering products for the Medical Device IVD industry.
  • Experience with testing techniques for cloud solutions.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Good understanding of the TLS\HTTPS REST\SOAP protocols.
  • Good understanding of OAuth 2.0\Open ID Connect protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Integration Troubleshooting: Experience with Rhapsody integration engine such as Envoy and troubleshooting error codes.
  • Investigate and resolve connectivity issues related to medical devices, cloud services, and other healthcare systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot HL7, POCT1A, FHIR, and other relevant protocols.
  • Address TLS-related challenges to ensure secure data transmission.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of connectivity and device interoperability to the completion of complex assignments, using advanced knowledge of organization’s technologies and practices.
  • Standards Implementation: Implement and adhere to industry standards (HL7, FHIR, etc.) for data exchange.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (FDA, HIPAA, etc.) related to medical device integration.
  • Cloud Connectivity: Collaborate with software development teams to establish robust connections between medical devices and Azure Cloud.
  • Optimize data flow, latency, and reliability in cloud-based environments.
  • Linux Expertise: Proficiently work with Linux-based systems for device integration.
  • Troubleshoot Linux-specific issues related to connectivity and data exchange.
  • Networking: Configure and maintain network infrastructure for medical devices.
  • Address network-related challenges affecting data transmission.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with software engineers, product managers, and quality assurance teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Act as SME in escalation resource to resolve on market customer issues.
  • Develop and own the device connectivity strategy supporting current products.
  • Build, and maintain the integration lab to perform integration testing and ensure releases properly interoperate with other devices on the network.
  • Understands and is aware of the quality consequences which may occur from the improper performance of the products.
  • Identify key barriers/core problems and apply problem-solving skills to deal creatively with complex situations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems, and make decisions under conditions of uncertainty, sometimes with incomplete information, that produce effective end results.
  • Work closely with product development team to establish product development goals related to connectivity while ensuring market compatibility.
