About The Position

Works under the direction of a supervisor within an assigned area of Chancery Court to assist Chancellors, other departments of the court, attorneys and civilians involved in litigation within Chancery Court as well as serving the public. Pay Grade: 46 Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of appropriate clerical, bookkeeping, data processing or statistical work; AND
  • High school diploma or possess a GED.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Nice To Haves

  • Courtroom experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Examines legal documents submitted to the court for adherence to court or legal procedures, accepts payments and issues receipts, explains courtroom procedures or forms to requesting parties.
  • Maintains the system of records and files in Chancery Court, including (but not limited to) storage, organization, rotating, transferring, copying, and certifying of court documents.
  • Provides information to various attorneys, state and county officials; transfers all requested cases to the appropriate requested entity.
  • Receives, maintains, and processes court documents in one or more areas within Chancery Court as assigned by Clerk and Master and/or CAO.
  • Serves as lead clerk in a courtroom setting preparing docket or calendar of cases to be called, administering oaths to witnesses, attorneys, and litigants; entering decisions and continuances into the case management system; securing information for a Chancellor, contacting attorneys and litigants, and instructing parties when to appear in court.
  • Schedules, analyzes, processes, verifies and maintains adoption and appellate reports and records with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgement.
  • Performs special projects or activities as assigned by manager/supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
