About The Position

The Principal Electrical Engineer role involves overseeing the design, development, modification, and evaluation of highly complex electrical components and systems . This senior technical position is suited for professionals with extensive experience and mastery in specialized areas such as power systems, control systems, EWIS, CD&H, or similar fields. Responsibilities include leading advanced projects, collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and technicians, and contributing to the development of innovative solutions. The role also involves mentoring less experienced engineers and technicians, acting as the technical lead for specialized projects, and staying updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering. In this role, you will oversee the design and development of highly complex electrical components and systems, modifying and evaluating existing electrical systems and components to improve performance and efficiency. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure electrical designs meet project requirements and standards, conduct tests and simulations to validate the performance of electrical systems and components, and document design processes, test results, and modifications for future reference. Providing expert technical support and troubleshooting assistance for electrical systems and components will be a key responsibility, as will staying updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering and applying new knowledge to ongoing projects. You will participate in team meetings and contribute to project planning and progress discussions, while mentoring and providing guidance to less experienced engineers and technicians. Acting as the technical lead for specialized projects, you will ensure successful project execution and take ownership of tasks, leading teams to achieve project goals efficiently and effectively.

Requirements

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree or Masters +10 yrs experience).
  • Typically 12+ years of related experience.
  • Mastery in a particular area (e.g., power systems, control systems, EWIS, CD&H, etc).
  • Expert knowledge of relevant industry standards.
  • Expert knowledge of electrical and avionic systems architectures and their design.
  • Expert in troubleshooting and solving complex problems.
  • Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Ability to take task-ownership and lead teams.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision on projects involving both small and large engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation.
  • Knowledge of systems integration, technical risk identification and management strategies, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles.
  • Experience performing trade studies to support subsystem architecture decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • An active Top Secret with SCI eligibility U.S. Security Clearance is preferred
  • Extensive experience serving as a Responsible Engineer (RE), driving hardware through its lifecycle, including development, qualification, integration & Test, Verification & Validation, and certification.
  • Experience with Electrical Architecture.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as Capital, AutoCAD Electrical, Altium Designer, or similar tools.
  • Experience with simulation software like SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink, Hyperlynx or similar.
  • Expertise in PCB design and layout.
  • Advanced understanding of power electronics and control systems.
  • Extensive experience with microcontrollers and embedded systems.
  • Ability to perform advanced circuit analysis and troubleshooting using tools like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ or Python for embedded systems development.
  • Familiarity with CCSDS specifications for spacecraft and ground data flow.
  • Proven experience in project management and the ability to lead large and complex projects.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
