About The Position

Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools, the Building Principal provides administrative support in Curriculum & Instruction, Staff Supervision & Evaluation, Building Operations, and Student Engagement. About the Malcolm White Elementary: Malcolm White Elementary School is a public, grades K–5 elementary school in the Woburn Public Schools district, serving approximately 320 students from the city of Woburn, Massachusetts. The school is named in honor of Malcolm White, a respected former Woburn educator and community member, and has long been recognized for its commitment to nurturing the whole child within a welcoming and inclusive environment. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Appropriate Licensure as a Principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
  • At least three years of minimum experience as a teacher or related service provider in the elementary school setting, with evidence of strong leadership ability.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership & Equity-Centered Practice Support the design and implementation of school-wide programs that meet the needs of all students; ensure all initiatives are rooted in equitable, inclusive, and culturally sustaining practices.
  • Partner with Curriculum Coordinators to facilitate the implementation of rigorous, standards-aligned High-Quality Instructional Materials; ensure staff have the necessary resources and coaching to implement curriculum with fidelity.
  • Administer the DESE supervision and evaluation plan for all staff, utilizing the process to provide high-quality, actionable feedback that improves instructional practice and student outcomes.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan using data to identify and close opportunity and achievement gaps.
  • Foster a culture of collaborative learning by providing the structural support and data necessary for teacher-led instructional growth through data meetings and teacher collaboration structures.
  • Management, Operations, & Safety Hire, onboard, supervise, and retain professional and support staff in accordance with School Committee policy, with a focus on building a diverse, high-quality workforce.
  • Oversee daily school operations to ensure a safe, well-organized, and effective learning environment.
  • Develop and manage the school budget in collaboration with the School Council, Superintendent, and Director of Finance, aligning resources to support equity and strategic priorities.
  • Create the master schedule and student placements to maximize instructional time and equitable access to academic and support services.
  • Collaborate with staff and families to implement a proactive, restorative school culture that promotes positive behavior and ensures consistent student attendance in alignment with district and state expectations.
  • Ensure implementation of school safety, emergency response, and crisis management protocols.
  • Collaborate with counseling, nursing, and mental health staff to support student wellness and social-emotional development.
  • Implement district operational procedures and ensure consistent execution at the school level.
  • Family & Community Engagement Establish and maintain two-way, ongoing communication with parents and the community; foster authentic partnerships that solicit family input in school decision-making.
  • Implement inclusive outreach strategies to ensure that the diverse perspectives of all families are represented and integrated into the school community.
  • Cultivate strategic partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and stakeholders to build a shared understanding of and support for school-wide objectives.
  • Develop and lead effective orientation and transition programs for students entering and exiting the school to ensure long-term academic and social success.
  • Professional Culture Facilitate twice-monthly Instructional Leadership Team meetings to distribute leadership responsibilities, build internal capacity, and empower teacher-leaders in driving school-wide instructional improvement.
  • Design and facilitate monthly faculty meetings that prioritize evidence-based instructional practices and student growth over routine administrative updates.
  • Administer educational plans for students with disabilities (Chapter 766) and supervise special education staff; ensure the school maintains an inclusive environment that provides the "least restrictive environment" for all learners.
  • Serve as an active member of the Administrative Council and district-level study committees; ensure consistent, transparent communication with the Superintendent regarding school events and critical situations.
  • Keep abreast of current research, trends, and legal developments in education; model a commitment to personal professional growth and anti-bias training.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools to support the district's mission.
