About The Position

The Principal Engineer - Structural Design Engineer provides senior-level structural engineering support, including analysis, design, and construction oversight for nuclear and industrial facilities. This role is responsible for defining the scope of complex technical programs, developing high-quality engineering solutions, and providing technical leadership across structural engineering activities. Work is performed onsite in accordance with established site procedures, codes, and standards to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective execution. The Principal Engineer applies advanced engineering principles to resolve complex and occasionally novel structural challenges, incorporating static and dynamic analysis, specialized materials, and coordination across multiple disciplines. This role serves as a recognized technical authority, providing guidance to less senior engineers and contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering practices.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience OR Bachelor's degree with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or current Professional Engineer registration in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in structural design and analysis for nuclear or industrial facilities
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of STAAD
  • Working knowledge of applicable national codes and standards, including IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA
  • Ability to perform onsite field walkdowns, including navigating active construction areas, climbing ladders, and wearing required protective equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provide structural design and construction oversight for assigned engineering tasks
  • Perform structural analysis for static and dynamic loads using manual calculations and computer-based tools
  • Design concrete, steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber, and composite structural systems
  • Perform foundation and anchorage design
  • Conduct structural evaluations for impact, overpressure, and accident conditions
  • Prepare CSI specifications and review vendor submittals and technical documents
  • Define technical scope, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements for engineering tasks
  • Monitor progress, budget expenditures, and quality of engineering deliverables
  • Identify and recommend improvements where existing technology or methodologies are inadequate
  • Communicate technical results and objectives to project management, engineering teams, and stakeholders through written reports and verbal briefings
  • Perform regular field walkdowns to support design validation and construction activities
  • Maintain awareness of advancements in structural engineering technologies and applicable codes and standards
