About our group:The Mechanical Hardware Engineering Design team develops mechanics for the next generation of high-capacity disc drives and systems to service the ever-growing storage requirements of today's connected world. Candidates should have an interest in applying their strong analytical and collaborative skills to solving complex mechanical design problems, validating design performance with testing, and working with a talented cross-functional team to bring these solutions to high volume production. About the role - you will: Design, develop, and validate innovative mechanical component and assembly solutions for Seagate’s most advanced high-platter count disk drives. Design and document design solutions with SolidWorks CAD and in-house PDM software. Create solid models, drawings, specifications for mechanical components Use analytical and/or simulation methods to determine the best design approach for disc drive parts and sub-assemblies. Lead component plus factory automation teams on best z height alignment solutions. Perform tolerance analyses on assemblies to ensure fitment and manufacturability Conducts feasibility studies of new and modified designs. Design solutions that provide balance a variety of critical KPOVs, including performance, cost, Supplier friendly manufacturing, Seagate assembly manufacturing requirements, Seagate cleanliness requirements, etc. A key focus will be design for manufacture / design for cost analysis with internal and external teams Analyze supplier and Seagate manufacturing component date and drive solutions for improvement. Develop and oversee engineering level validation tests for components Conduct lab testing to verify component / assembly function using a broad range of electrical and mechanical testing equipment. Communicate technical information in writing and verbal formats. Assist with failure analysis activities About you: Demonstrate aptitude for mechanical design through industry experience or course-work projects Leadership, decision making, strong initiative and problem solving Clear and effective communication skills Continuous learner Your experience includes: Knowledge of Solidworks, EPDM, and Windchill PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, Sharepoint experience required Component design using engineering modeling and analysis tools Experience with materials, material properties, and component fabrication techniques (ie. Molding, casting, stamping, machining, etc.) Experience with Seagate’s PLCP development process Leading and working with cross-functional engineering teams in a collaborative environment, in particular with global HDA and HSA Assembly, Supplier Engineering, Materials Science Labs, and Procurement personnel. Reporting, communication, and presentation of engineering design and analysis results Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of experience in an Engineering related field or a Master's Degree with 8+ years of experience.
