About The Position

Under general supervision and guidance of the Assistant Superintendent for K-12 Schools, provides administrative direction, coordination and leadership to the assigned school while working in cooperation with district administration. This position directly supervises all school-based staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in educational administration or related field and Two (2) years of experience as a principal, assistant/vice principal, administrative intern, or five (5) years of teaching or educational staff associate experience with documented successful school-based experience in an instructional role with students.
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills.
  • Knowledge of current educational research and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to model excellence and provide leadership and change within the school.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality,
  • Ability to develop community and parent support for all aspects of the school program.
  • Ability to organize own work and work independently.
  • Eligibility forWashingtonStatePrincipal's or Administrative Certification.
  • Fingerprinting and Background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Site-Based Management experience.
  • Experience in successful community and parent outreach activities.
  • Secondary Candidates: Recent experience with secondary vocational-technical education programs, experience as a secondary assistant principal or other building-level administrator and experience in a leadership role at the building and district level, i.e. department chair, district wide committee or task force.
  • Elementary Candidates: Knowledge of Title I, “School wide” projects, school reform initiatives and experience with innovative educational models such as “Success for All,” “Accelerated Schools,” “HOTS” or “Paideia”, and experience with ECEAP or Head Start preschool programs.
  • Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher and/or as a building/program administrator, in the improvement of student achievement over time.
  • Experience as a principal, assistant principal or administrative intern.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to encourage excellence in students and staff.
  • Experience with research-based effective practices and with using data to differentiate instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates understanding of and ability to establish and accomplish short and long range goals within established school district policies, administrative regulations, state guidelines and current educational research and development.
  • Maintains an awareness of important issues in the school and maintains a commitment to the individual needs of students, staff, and parents.
  • Supervises programs and staff; provides instructional leadership which inspires staff and students to contribute their best efforts.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity, understanding and commitment to diversity and applies principles to working relationships with students, staff, parents and school community.
  • Demonstrates understanding and commitment to equal employment practices and the District’s Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Evaluates certificated and classified staff in accordance with District processes.
  • Completes observations and provides performance evaluations.
  • Evaluates own performance; identifies strengths, needs and areas for improvement by incorporating input from students, staff, parents, administrators and the school community.
  • Develops and maintains an effective instruction and guidance program to include effective use of curriculum materials, instructional supplies and equipment.
  • Supports and monitors implementation of the District's curriculum including multicultural education programs.
  • Researches and coordinates appropriate in-service training opportunities for staff members.
  • Prepares and administers school and Associated Student Body budgets.
  • Ensures maintenance of student records and data on school programs.
  • Ensures that an effective site council is established and operating.
  • Collaborates with Site Council to analyze and utilize the data to develop , implement, monitor and evaluate the school improvement plan.
  • Maintains current knowledge, skills and abilities in educational leadership through participation in workshops, university courses, professional reading and membership in professional organizations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
