About The Position

Silvus Technologies, a leading provider of advanced MANET and MIMO communications systems, is reshaping mesh network technology for mission-critical applications – on the ground, in the air, and at sea. Its battle-proven StreamCaster family of MANET radios and proprietary MN-MIMO waveform provides the vital communications link for defense, law enforcement, and public safety agencies around the world, and in the toughest operational environments. With deep roots in DARPA research, Silvus Technologies develops world-class advanced communications technologies that are reshaping the tactical communications landscape. From pure line-of-sight to extreme non-line-of-sight, Silvus radios form a self-healing, self-forming mesh network, enabling secure and reliable connectivity, including video and high-bandwidth data Silvus Technologies is a wholly owned subsidiary of Motorola Solutions, Inc. Would you like to join an incredibly talented group of people, doing very challenging work, with the prime directive of “Keeping Our Heroes Connected”? Silvus is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Principal R&D Systems Architect who will report to the Senior Director of R&D, Electronic Warfare on the Research & Development team. The successful individual in this pivotal role will serve as the primary technical architect for next-generation Networked Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, and will bridge the gap between complex RF hardware, advanced signal processing software, and distributed networking architectures to create scalable, future-proof EW solutions. This individual will work within a multi-disciplinary R&D team to architect systems that not only detect and counter threats, but coordinate these effects across a mesh of intelligent nodes. This position is eligible for 100% remote work depending on location. The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 8-10+ years in systems engineering or architecture for complex hardware/software systems, with a proven track record of designing "system-of-systems".
  • Deep experience in Electronic Warfare (EA/ES/EP), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), or advanced Tactical Wireless Communications (MANET, MIMO).
  • Proven experience implementing or designing modular standards such as JICD.
  • Mastery of MBSE and requirements tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw), IBM DOORS, or Jama Connect.
  • Exceptional ability to present complex architectural concepts to non-technical stakeholders and government customers.
  • Security Clearance: Active U.S. Government SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain one within 15 months of hire.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check and drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree (MS or PhD) in Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • Distributed EW: Expert knowledge of TDOA/FDOA geolocation, coherent distributed jamming, or collaborative sensing.
  • RF & Waveform Design: Fluency in RF propagation, link budgets, and the architectural implications of MIMO/MANET waveforms.
  • Software/Cloud Architectures: Familiarity with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), software optimization for applications running at the tactical edge and modern networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast).
  • Analysis: Proficiency in MATLAB or Python for architectural modeling and performance prediction.

Responsibilities

  • Architectural Vision & Strategy: Define the end-to-end architecture for networked EW systems, ensuring alignment with Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) standards.
  • System-of-Systems Integration: Lead the design of distributed EW capabilities across MANET networks, focusing on scalability, low-latency coordination, and multi-node synchronization.
  • Technical Governance & Trade Studies: Lead high-level trade studies to balance performance, SWaP-C (Size, Weight, Power, and Cost), and modularity. Establish the technical standards that guide the broader engineering team.
  • Requirements & Interface Definition: Oversee the decomposition of mission-level requirements into robust Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and system specifications, ensuring seamless interoperability between hardware and software components.
  • Interoperability Standards: Serve as the subject matter expert on tactical data links and integration with third-party ecosystems (e.g., ATAK, Link 16, or government-owned frameworks).
  • Technical Advisory: Act as a bridge between executive leadership, product management, and engineering teams to ensure the technical roadmap meets long-term customer needs and market trends.
  • Travel Requirements: Approximately 25% to support customer meetings and high-level integration activities.
  • Perform other related duties of which the above are representative.
