About the position

As a Principal Engineer of Search Relevance, you will be dedicated to the creation of next-generation search relevance techniques and strategies for LexisNexis, dramatically improving how our users search and find the answers to their legal questions. You will be an expert and set the architectural standard. You'll be developing corporate tactical technology strategy on large multifunctional development activities, solving complex technical problems. Using your expert skills, you'll be writing complex codes, and serving as a senior source of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the primary point of contact for external technology resources
  • Working directly with customers and end-users, and providing design input across a product
  • Performing reviews to ensure enterprise and architectural standards and processes are followed
  • Writing advanced complex code for computer systems and serve as a senior source of expertise
  • Managing system and user acceptance testing cycles to ensure accurate and quality business solutions
  • Recommending technical strategy and direction across functional area, participating in the development and evolution of architecture
  • Acting as an acknowledged 'go to' person on coding and technical issues
  • Interfacing with other personnel or team members to finalize requirements
  • Completing complex bug fixes, and assisting with workarounds for system outages
  • Mentoring lead software developers interested in consultancy in development methodologies and optimization techniques

Requirements

  • Have a BS degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Solid experience developing / maintaining web applications based on modern search engines such as Solr, Elasticsearch, Machine Learning, Markloqic, FastESP, Vespa including indexing, query parsing, and relevance tuning
  • Have an advanced knowledge of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall)
  • Be expert in development languages, including JAVA/J2EE, Python, JavaScript, JSP, C/C++, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, UNIX and .Net
  • Have an excellent understanding of data modelling principles, data manipulation languages and storage systems
  • Have experience in partnering with and leading internal and external technology resources to solve business needs
  • Have excellent knowledge of test-driven development and maintenance, including techniques for applying best practices
  • Have great problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and implement effective solutions
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills when dealing with multiple priorities, able to delegate effectively
  • Have excellent communication skills and the ability to convey information clearly to a wide audience
