About The Position

OneDrive and SharePoint (ODSP) are rapidly growing services at the center of Microsoft's cloud, reaching almost every part of the company, like Windows and Office. ODSP is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to be a part of a team that can fundamentally change the way that millions of people use their devices and interact with the most important content in their lives. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will design and deliver systems that enable partners and independent software vendors (ISVs) to migrate from other cloud providers, improve core systems performance and efficiencies, and ensure zero customer impact throughout the change management cycle. You will deliver systems to meet our business continuity planning goals, provide telemetry for optimizing the service and drive our response time for detecting and resolving service issues down. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience including with cloud-scale services + Identity Frameworks such as Oauth, Authentication, Authorization, OpenID Connect, JSON Web Token (JWT), Cryptography, or CyberSecurity. with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 15+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • Experience with building cloud-scale infrastructure components.
  • Experience related to cloud scale distributed design and patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and deliver world‑class Identity Management, Authorization, and Policy systems that protect and secure customer content across all M365 applications and services.
  • Build and evolve platforms that enforce consistent access controls regardless of how M365 content is accessed.
  • Improve onboarding experiences by automating the management and maintenance of permissions across a broad ecosystem of M365 applications and services to secure SharePoint Online (SPO) content.
  • Drive Engineering Excellence initiatives focused on improving system performance, resilience, and reliability.
  • Lead systemic Single Point of Failure (SPOF) analysis and recovery engineering to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.
  • Execute change management with a focus on zero customer impact during deployment and rollout of critical systems.
  • Deliver services that meet business continuity planning (BCP) requirements and recovery objectives.
  • Implement robust telemetry and monitoring to optimize service health and performance.
  • Drive improvements in detection, response, and resolution times for service incidents to enhance overall reliability and customer trust.
