About The Position

Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer. We’re looking for a passionate professional who is ready to take on a high level of responsibility in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The Principal Software Engineer within the Electric Power Systems Power Distribution product group contributes across all phases of the product development life cycle, including software requirements, architecture and design, integration and test, and verification and certification support—within an interdisciplinary process that ensures customer needs are met at every stage. We are seeking an individual capable of working collaboratively with both local and remote team members to develop embedded flight software and produce the associated life-cycle and certification evidence. The candidate will define, maintain, document, implement, and test software requirements for secondary power distribution products. They must also be able to work effectively on a cross-functional support team and communicate clearly in various internal and external review boards.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with full life-cycle software development, from requirements analysis through hardware/software integration and testing.
  • Familiarity with software development processes and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Collins Aerospace secondary distribution products.
  • Familiarity with Collins Aerospace products and suppliers is a plus.
  • Experience with Polarion, SVN, Telelogic Synergy, Telelogic Rational DOORS, and MATLAB.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment, sometimes including remote team members, engaging in full life-cycle development (planning, requirements, design, design, verification, certification/qualification) of electric power distribution and conversion systems, typically using C, and certifying to aerospace standards (DO-178B/C is typical, Design Assurance Levels A to C).
  • Participate in the software discipline council to improve and adapt standard work and departmental practices.
  • Measure and analyze software designs for equipment/products to ensure that current and future business needs are met.
  • Build and implement procedures to support hardware and software product development and related functions.
  • Operate equipment and computer systems for testing and software design purposes, facilitating operations and ensuring that established objectives are achieved.
  • Design, develop, document, test, and debug control and diagnostic systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Lead and conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software.
  • Perform timing, memory, and stack usage analyses.
  • Determine end-user needs by analyzing system capabilities to resolve issues related to program intent, output requirements, and input data acquisition.
  • Ensure compliance with hardware and software standards.
  • Design and implement build procedures to support hardware and software product development and usage.
  • Develop software configuration standards for company-wide use, as needed.
