The Principal, Technology Strategy and Analysis position resides in the Technology Strategy department at CableLabs. This department shapes strategic decisions for our industry through techno-economic analysis; the assessment of strategic technologies; and business analysis of new innovations and growth opportunities. Our team plays a crucial role in providing analysis and research to inform decision making for our members and to shape CableLabs Tech Vision and the innovation portfolio. Why This Role Is Exciting The position has responsibility for leading and performing strategic analyses of products, services, and innovations including competitive, cost, market, and technology assessments. Conduct analyses on technologies and opportunities with focus on communications infrastructure across a range of technologies and markets including cable (HFC), fiber, satellite, mobile and fixed wireless along with enabling technologies such as AI/ML/LLM and cybersecurity. This role requires the ability to conduct detailed data and financial analysis and to “zoom out” to think about and to articulate the strategic implications for our industry. This role entails collaboration with technologists in understanding the “why?” and “so what?” behind break-through innovations. This role requires thought leadership and influence with demonstrated ability to communicate and tactfully debate the implications of analyses with industry executives around the world. The impact of your work will inform key decision makers externally at the senior level of technology, product, and strategy organizations within our member base of network operators. We are looking for a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a track record of influencing strategic direction within an organization or industry. The Principal Strategist will blend the mindset of a management consultant, the acumen of a financial analyst, and deep expertise in the communications or technology industries.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience focused on communications and/or technology infrastructure and markets
  • 10+ years of experience in strategy, management consulting, market research, corporate development, product management, or a related field.
  • An MBA, and a BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Operations Research, Physics, or Economics.
  • Experience influencing executive and C-level leadership.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams without direct reporting responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills, including an ability to support assertions with data, and an ability to defend explanations.
  • Impeccable financial and business analysis skills with use of Excel, Python, R, and similar modeling tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to deep dive into learning new technologies such as AI/ML or computing and network architecture.
  • Track record of building a portfolio of executive relationships

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cost and business case analysis of innovations based on emerging technologies and new growth opportunities
  • Research and assess competitive and emerging technologies and their impact at an industry level
  • Build and maintain a depository of industry KPI’s for executive insights and decision making.
  • Apply knowledge of communications or technology industry infrastructure
  • Identify use cases and create product/service requirement documents to drive technical architecture
  • Collaborate with CableLabs’ technical teams on technology assessments and roadmaps
  • Produce white papers and economic models in support of analyses
  • Present technology strategy analyses in a range of venues including member meetings, webinars, and external conferences
  • Foster and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including C-level executives

  • Compensation: The salary range is $186,030 - $239,330. This position is eligible for bonus incentive compensation up to 25% of base salary.
