Akron General’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) encompasses both the 12-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and 12-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU). These units provide comprehensive, patient-centered critical care to diverse populations of patients ranging from young adults to geriatric patients. Patients in the ICU have a wide range of needs as these are Level I trauma, COVID, critical care, and CRRT dialysis patients requiring one-on-one care. As a Nurse Technician in this unit, you will assist with direct patient care activities under the supervision of an RN. A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) varying shifts. You must work a minimum of 64 hours in the summer. A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Requirements

  • Nursing student in good standing in an accredited nursing school program OR an unlicensed graduate of an accredited nursing school program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross prior to hire
  • Maintain competencies specific to patient population served
  • Satisfactorily complete hospital orientation

Nice To Haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
  • Acute care experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN.
  • Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.
  • Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.
