The Pro Bono Co-op will work closely with the firm’s Pro Bono Team to help facilitate Goodwin’s active firmwide pro bono program. The role supports the administration and monitoring of the firm’s pro bono policies, processes, programs and functions. The co-op will also have exposure to a variety of areas of pro bono practice including immigration law, nonprofit representation and small business assistance.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional organizational capabilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of tasks in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize as necessary.
  • Exercise keen judgment about when to escalate questions to another team member.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Ability to handle confidential client, firm and personnel information.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct “status check-ins” for pro bono matters and ensure Matter Notes are up-to-date, including a focus on Neighborhood Business Initiative, a transactional pro bono project that serves small business owners, immigration cases, and GLAD Name Change Project client-matters.
  • Assist with closing out completed pro bono matters by ensuring that closing letters and other case information have been properly filed and documented, and confirm the proper closure of matters at the month-end.
  • Support the administration of legal clinics by sending confirmation and reminder emails to volunteers, and collect follow-up information about clinic clients and outcomes.
  • Track outreach from associates who are seeking pro bono work and ensure the team responds in a timely matter.
  • Track outreach from prospective pro bono clients and ensure the team responds in a timely manner.
  • Various other pro bono administrative tasks and projects as time allows.
