About The Position

RED-Rochester LLC, is the primary utility provider and district energy supplier for the 1,200-acre Eastman Business Park, one of the world’s most comprehensive industrial campuses located in Rochester, NY. RED-Rochester owns and operates a highly reliable and efficient utility infrastructure that delivers a full suite of services—utilizing high pressure industrial boilers and a gas turbine-supporting electricity, steam, chilled water, and other critical utilities across the park. These services are distributed through a dedicated microgrid and industrial systems designed to meet the demands of diverse industrial and commercial tenants. RED-Rochester is looking for a Process & Control Systems Engineer to join its Instrumentation & Controls Team.

Requirements

  • The ideal candidate has a process-oriented background, including familiarity of a variety of mechanical, hydronic, steam, electric and control systems. 2-3+ years experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) is a plus. Knowledge of Emerson’s Ovation DCS is a plus.
  • Familiarity & basic experience with control system configuration/programming is required. The ability to learn Ovation DCS control system programming quickly is required.
  • Knowledge of industrial utility equipment and systems including boilers, turbines, generators, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air compressors, water systems and water treatment strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity of industrial instrumentation ad process measurement technologies is required.
  • Proficiency using technical manuals, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, ladder logins and functional control diagrams is required
  • Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, UL, OSHA, ISA, IEC, and ANSI and other applicable codes/standards for installation of industrial control panels and control systems is a plus.
  • Bachelor of Science required in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical, Computer, Chemical, Control Systems, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Dedication to customer service and understanding that our most important customers.
  • Fundamental understanding of electrical, mechanical, and controls systems. A broad, cohesive understanding of many types of systems is preferred over deep understanding of a single type of system.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

  • Demonstrates a high level of emotional intelligence and is able to communicate in a calm, professional manner in stressful environments.

  • Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Execute modifications, perform upgrades, and troubleshoot existing control systems.
  • Design, manage, execute and commission new control system projects.
  • Identify and implement control system improvement projects to drive continuous improvement in the company operations.
  • Train and support RED’s I&C technicians on process systems operation, maintenance, and associated instrumentation/final control devices.
  • Manage data in the OSIsoft PI data collection system—ensure all appropriate data is being collected from utility meters and plant processes, and set up new data points in the PI system to be used in billing, regulatory reporting, energy analyses, etc.
  • Manage suppliers and contractors to successfully implement instrument/control element installations/replacements, control system projects, and other utility system improvements.
  • Provide support for ongoing plant control system operations for RED-Rochester’s Steam, Power, and Chilled Water systems and its Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant.
