About The Position

The Process Design and Integration Engineer supports plant process design and integration of non-nuclear mechanical systems designed by one of TerraPower’s partners for the NATRIUMT demonstration plant. In this role, you will support, and report to TerraPower’s EPC Design Integration Mechanical/Process Manager. This will also include process modeling of Rankine and molten salt equipment for other plants in various project phases. The successful candidate will provide technical and administrative design support and oversight for a wide range of energy island systems and perform process system modeling. The Process Design and Integration Engineer will work as part of a high performing team of engineers.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will display leadership skills by proactively driving cross functional design collaboration and integration of mechanical process systems, structures, and components.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical sciences or a related technical field is required, preferably with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in plant design or modifications, with emphasis on process systems.
  • Experience with process modeling using commercial software to model power cycles (i.e. Gate Cycle, Thermoflow, etc.).
  • Prior experience with steam and none-nuclear power plant systems.
  • The candidate must be team oriented, and able to work effectively with geographically distributed and possibly international design team members.
  • Candidate should have broad-based technical and engineering skills and experience leading an integrated cross functional design team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to convey critical design integration information to senior management, the engineering team, customers etc.
  • Ability to work in a first of a kind environment that requires good engineering judgement and identify needed design progress to achieve key project objectives.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, able to communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering oversight to non-nuclear Natrium plant systems focused on Rankine Cycle equipment including steam generator, feedwater and condensate system, and heat removal system.
  • Provides integration and oversight to geographically diverse team members to develop system design deliverables, with emphasis non-nuclear power plant systems.
  • Support development of conceptual design for new plants and systems, including responding to customer RFIs, and process modeling of the Rankine Cycle.
  • Maintain and update the NATRIUM Rankine Cycle model.
  • Support integration with other process systems, including sodium and salt heat transfer systems.
  • Supports interface with other plant design departments, including plant 3D model development, Civil/Structural/Architectural, PRA, transient modeling, electrical, seismic, etc.
