POSITION SUMMARY: Marathon Petroleum Company is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer to develop and implement capital projects at its Detroit, Michigan refinery. The selected applicant would fill the role of Process Lead for ~2-5 capital projects. The Process Lead will work alongside other engineering and craft disciplines in a team environment to develop and implement projects that enhance the operation of the facility. Some travel (~10%) to interface with engineering contractors should be expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering required.
  • Four (4) years or more of experience in process design within refining or heavy industry required.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous project development/execution experience preferred.
  • Refinery economics and planning experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the business case justifying new investment opportunities.
  • Investigate and develop project opportunities that advance and support the strategic positioning of the refinery.
  • Develop the process design basis and determine equipment modifications needed to achieve project objectives.
  • Lead and participate in PFD, P&ID and Constructability reviews.
  • Review and approve data sheets for new or modified equipment and instruments.
  • Complete relief system analysis and mitigations.
  • Participate in PHA/HAZOP/LOPA hazard analyses.
  • Assist in updating of operating procedures, training materials and operating manuals.
  • Validate new/modified equipment is properly installed pre-start up.
  • Support project start-up and troubleshooting.
  • Complete project close-out activities and post-audits.
