About The Position

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Process Engineering Intern will optimize manufacturing/production by analyzing data, troubleshooting issues, and supporting improvement projects. They will also be focusing on efficiency, quality, and cost reduction through tasks like process mapping, Lean implementation, documentation (SOPs, P&IDs), data analysis, and collaborating cross-functionally with operations, quality, and product teams, applying skills in CAD, simulation, and root cause analysis. Ability to complete a 13-week program (from May 18, 2026 to August 14, 2026) and commit to 40 hours per week onsite in Shirley, NY.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related Engineering.
  • Data analysis, familiarity with manufacturing systems.
  • Problem-solving, communication (written/verbal), teamwork, project management.

Responsibilities

  • Process Analysis & Improvement: Review existing processes, conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for defects, and develop/implement solutions.
  • Data & Documentation: Collect and analyze data, create process flow charts, update P&IDs, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Lean/Continuous Improvement: Implement Lean, 5S, or Kaizen principles to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Project Support: Assist senior engineers on capital projects, equipment changes, and new product introductions (NPI).
  • Technical Tasks: Perform process simulations, assist with PLC data, and potentially use CAD software (like SolidWorks).
  • Collaboration: Work with operations, quality, maintenance, and production teams to achieve goals.
