About The Position

Leads the enterprise-wide sourcing strategy and purchasing execution for all packaging materials—including rigid plastics, flexible films, and printed materials—across a network of manufacturing plants for a private label CPG snack company. Accountable for ensuring uninterrupted supply while optimizing total cost, quality, service, sustainability, and inventory. Owns packaging category strategy, manages market risk, drives productivity, and develops procurement talent. Partners cross-functionally to support operational excellence and financial performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in packaging procurement or category management within food or CPG manufacturing.
  • Proven experience leading and developing procurement teams.
  • Strong experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and e-sourcing tools.
  • Demonstrated success managing large spend categories and delivering measurable savings.
  • Advanced negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and forecasting capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute the packaging category strategy, including rigid plastics, flexible packaging, and printed materials.
  • Lead sourcing, contracting, and day-to-day purchasing activities to ensure continuity of supply and lowest total landed cost.
  • Partner with Freight, Logistics, Packaging Engineering, Operations, Materials Management, and Finance to align supply strategies with plant requirements and financial targets.
  • Develop and implement strategic sourcing frameworks, supplier segmentation, and long-term agreements.
  • Lead domestic and global supplier negotiations for pricing, quality, service, capacity, and risk mitigation.
  • Monitor commodity and packaging market trends; develop price forecasts and risk management strategies; communicate impacts to senior leadership.
  • Drive annual productivity, cost savings, and working capital improvement initiatives.
  • Establish inventory strategies and service level expectations in partnership with plants.
  • Lead cross-functional supplier selection, qualification, and rationalization efforts.
  • Set strategy and priorities for indirect procurement and value-added ingredient sourcing where applicable.
  • Provide functional leadership, coaching, and performance management for buyers or procurement team members.
  • Ensure all purchased materials meet quality, regulatory, and food safety requirements.
  • Support sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives across packaging materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
