About The Position

As a Perishables Inspector, you are responsible for the daily inspection of inbound and outbound product. This includes but is not limited to: monitoring product expiration dates or best use date; monitoring product for proper slotting and addressing product issues with the supervisor or manager. Primary purpose of this position is to ensure that all perishable quality and food safety specifications are adhered to. This encompasses both company procurement quality specifications, customer's quality specifications (if applicable) and government regulations controlled in accordance with US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act (PACA) guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of USDA standards for meat and produce, PACA regulations, State DEC, HACCP standards for seafood and customer specifications a plus but not required
  • USDA produce certification or HACCP certification a plus but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

  • Inspect produce inbound deliveries into company facility for quality, weight, sizing, color, date code requirements and proper labeling of products.
  • Inspect quality of outbound produce within the slots ensuring product is in specification of customer requirements.
  • Update (overages or shortages) and send reports to procurement if applicable.
  • Work closely with quality control inspectors, receiving clerks, and warehouse operation supervisor on inbound truck load deliveries into the C&S perishables facility to ensure timely deliveries and quality produce is received.
  • Communicate inbound receiving issues to procurement and warehouse management to regulate and facilitate the receiving dock flow operations.
  • Communicate issues and concerns from specific vendors to buyers, category management and quality control manager to remain in compliance with quality specifications and food safety regulations.
  • Supervise USDA federal inspections requested for the facility.
  • Notify appropriate parties of issues discovered during initial inbound inspection process.
  • File inbound inspection reports and complete write-ups in a timely manner.
  • Monitor warehouse activities that may affect product quality and safety to include ensuring that pallet receipt date tags are routinely checked by distribution center receivers ensuring proper flow of paperwork, i.e.: discrepancies in the count of product and checking truck manifests for accuracy.
  • Audit inventory levels and rotation to assure that products meet company freshness and quality standards, and advise responsible parties of any concerns impairing the quality or products.
  • Strive to maintain quality levels across the supply chain.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to maintaining relationships with internal customers (procurement and warehouse operations), ensuring steady and consistent movement at the dock to ensure optimum freshness, cross-training with other facilities to provide coverage if needed.
