Lead the end-to-end design and engineering integration of complex sub-systems within Apple iPhone. Work closely with technical and operations teams to define engineering requirements and manage the resolution of design challenges associated with integrating key technologies for the Apple iPhone. Design, engineer, and validate concepts, parts, and solutions using 3D CAD tools. Interact and collaborate with overseas manufacturers to ensure designed parts are mass producible. Utilize knowledge of manufacturing processes used for metal, plastic, and brittle components. Analyze structural and functional robustness of the design by working with finite element analysis and using statistical tools and techniques. Resolve issues and ensure the design meets requirements throughout its lifecycle by applying mechanical and material engineering principles to conduct failure analysis and determine root cause. Utilize materials and mechanics of materials engineering principles to design material-based solutions conducive to mass production. Leverage knowledge in plastics and metal part design within mass production setting. Parse and synthesize datasets and technical design details into visual summaries that clearly communicate issues and proposed solutions. Conduct failure analysis using data collected on advanced instruments, such as industrial computational topographic x-ray scanners and scanning electron microscopes to determine root cause and corrective design changes. Develop innovative analysis tools to assess performance of new, breakthrough technologies invented for iPhone. International Travel Required 20%. 40 hours/week.
