About the position

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Product Development - Upholstery / Pattern and Spec Maker to join our domestic manufacturing team. This role plays a critical part in transforming design concepts into production-ready patterns and specifications that ensure quality and efficiency. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with inside upholstery, trim work, and pattern creation, proficiency in all three is highly preferred and will be a key asset in the role. The candidate will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative, high-quality, and market-ready upholstery products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality inside upholstery using leather and fabric on various furniture styles
  • Apply detailed trim work, including welts, skirts, buttons, and other finishing components
  • Ensure all upholstery and trim meet Bradington-Young's craftsmanship and quality standards
  • Work closely with design teams to interpret design concepts and bring them to life
  • Partner with production teams to ensure upholstery and trim processes are optimized for manufacturing
  • Provide hands-on technical support and resolve construction challenges as needed
  • Participate in the creation of new prototypes, evaluating fit, comfort, and visual appeal
  • Offer suggestions and make adjustments based on testing results and feedback
  • Identify ways to improve upholstery, trim, and development workflows for greater efficiency
  • Stay informed about industry trends and evolving tools and techniques
  • Develop accurate patterns for new upholstery designs (currently by hand; CAD transition planned within a year)
  • Create detailed product specifications including dimensions, materials, and construction details
  • Maintain organized documentation of all patterns and specifications
  • Modify patterns and specs to enhance quality and production efficiency

Requirements

  • Must be able to perform inside upholstery, trim work, and pattern making, proficiency in all three areas is a strong plus
  • Prior experience in upholstery pattern making or a similar role in the furniture industry
  • Strong working knowledge of upholstery construction and materials
  • Proficiency with hand tools used in pattern creation; CAD experience (AutoCAD, Gerber, Lectra, etc.) is a plus
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and bring them to life
  • High attention to detail and craftsmanship
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Collaborative and effective communicator
  • Associate degree in Industrial Design, Textile Engineering, or related field preferred (experience may substitute)
  • Certifications in upholstery or pattern-making are a plus
  • Ability to lift materials and patterns up to 75 lbs
  • Must be able to stand, bend, and work with tools for extended periods in a production environment
