About The Position

The Product Manager supports the strategy, development, marketing, and ongoing success of innovative products within the UMGC portfolio. Working closely with cross-functional teams and under the guidance of senior leaders, this role contributes to market research, product planning, go-to-market efforts, and customer engagement initiatives. The Product Manager helps shape solutions that address user needs and institutional objectives while advancing UMGC’s position in the education technology market.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience (professional or academic) supporting technology products, technology services or product marketing, ideally in SaaS, EdTech, or higher education environments.
  • Familiarity with market research, competitive analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Basic financial literacy, including an understanding of pricing and revenue models.
  • General technical literacy in cloud-based solutions, integrations, and analytics; awareness of current technology trends is a plus.
  • Experience working as part of a team to develop partnerships, manage projects, or deliver cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, including the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
  • Analytical thinker who can help interpret data and insights for decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Creative problem-solving ability, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; additional coursework or certification (e.g., in product management, marketing) preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to product launch, go-to-market planning, or commercialization in SaaS, EdTech, or technology-driven organizations.
  • Experience working with institutional clients in education or related sectors.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing campaigns, content creation, or engagement programs.
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms, LMS integrations, and analytics tools.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to market analysis, customer segmentation, and competitive research to help inform product strategy and positioning.
  • Assist in the development and execution of go-to-market and commercialization plans, including branding, pricing, messaging, and basic financial modeling.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to help define and prioritize product requirements, features, and differentiators.
  • Support the creation of product marketing materials, sales enablement resources, and value propositions for key audiences.
  • Participate in customer acquisition, retention, and engagement initiatives, including digital campaigns, trade events, and marketing funnel optimization.
  • Help manage relationships with partners, vendors, and technology providers (e.g., LMS, cloud platforms, content partners), often coordinating with other team members.
  • Collaborate with development, marketing, sales, and support teams to facilitate successful product delivery, launch, and adoption.
  • Contribute to monitoring and reporting on product performance using quantitative and qualitative data; assist with iterative improvements based on user feedback and market trends.
  • Assist with competitive and SWOT analyses, and help identify new opportunities for growth.
  • Help identify and address risks and challenges as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team.
  • Support innovative product and marketing solutions that align with UMGC’s mission, brand, and strategic goals.

  • Tuition Remission: CII employees are eligible immediately for Tuition Remission at UMGC or at University of Maryland College Park. Spouses and dependent children are eligible for undergraduate tuition remission after two years of service .
