About The Position

Malibu is the world’s leading towboat manufacturer and is looking for an experienced Product Compliance Manager to join the Malibu Boats (MBI) team. This position is responsible for ensuring MBI boats and other products manufactured at its facilities comply with applicable federal regulations, current National Marine Manufacturer’s Association (‘NMMA’) certification program, and additional international standards and certifications as required for the markets in which MBI boats are sold. This includes ensuring all MBI teams maintain proper certifications and documentation, testing and validation procedures, training programs, and in-house policies to support new and existing products.

  • Ability to collaborate and build partnerships with multiple business units within a company
  • Working knowledge of boat manufacturing and boat operation
  • Regular travel to MBI locations to review and support product compliance efforts
  • Proficient in trailering, launching, and test driving boats
  • BSME, or related degree from ABET accredited University required
  • Experience in NMMA, ABYC, USCG, and CE rules and regulations required
  • Minimum 8 yrs experience in “hands on” application of recreational craft of engineering, manufacturing, product compliance, and/or testing and certification procedures required
  • Working knowledge of CAD Programs (AutoCAD, Rhino, and Solidworks), Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Power Point required
  • Hold a current ABYC Standards Advisor Certification required
  • Membership of ABYC Project Technical Committee(s)
  • English required. Effective communication skills will be necessary to perform tasks.
  • Will use mathematics to solve problems, up to the algebraic level.

  • NMMA Standard Standards Compliance Specialist certification preferred
  • Familiar with NMMA Boat and Yacht Certification requirements preferred
  • Familiar with NMMA Trailer Certification requirements preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform regular audits of MBI brand products, components, and processes for compliance with applicable safety and certification requirements and federal regulations.
  • Applying and interpreting audit and compliance requirements for various departments and developing risk management strategies.
  • Coordinating the creation, review, and implementation of boat and product policies, new product test plans, and safety and certification checklists across MBI brands.
  • Support the compliance contact at each MBI brand to ensure certification and documentation for new models and that MBI products comply with the latest safety and certification requirements both domestically and abroad.
  • Advise MBI leadership team on business operations relating to the risks, and compliance with safety and certification requirements at all MBI brands.
  • Review product changes and product change documentation to ensure compliance with best practices and processes.
  • Maintain regular interaction with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Customer Service, and Supply Chain to share training and updates in product compliance requirements.
  • Regularly support and communicate with MBI corporate legal counsel on product compliance issues and assist in creation of new policies, test plans, and risk management strategies.
  • Obtain and maintain American Boat and Yacht Council (‘ABYC’) Advisor Certification
  • Obtain and maintain annual NMMA Compliance Specialist Certification
  • Obtain and maintain membership of one or more ABYC Project Technical Committees
  • Review latest NMMA Boat and Yacht Standards, advising MBI brands on the latest standards and upcoming changes.
  • Review latest NMMA Boat Trailer standards and advise all MBI brands on the latest standards and upcoming changes.
  • Maintain a current standards library and archive of reference documents including Federal Regulations, NMMA certification requirements, ABYC standards, ISO small craft standards, Recreational Craft Sectoral Group (‘RSG’) guidelines, Transport Canada Requirements, and Australian Requirements.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
