About The Position

The Product Stewardship and Export Compliance Specialist serves as the company’s internal subject matter expert on chemical regulatory compliance and export control requirements. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and international chemical regulations, as well as U.S. export control laws. The role oversees hazard classification, regulatory reporting, and federal and state chemical compliance activities, and provides expertise in export classification determinations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of science, or a combination of experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position
  • Significant to expert knowledge of foreign export laws and regulations, particularly, U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN)
  • Significant to expert knowledge of major federal regulations such as, IMERC, PFSA, TSCA, PHMSA, EPCRA, OSHA, etc.
  • Ability to approach problem solving using innovative ideas and a broad perspective
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other stakeholders with diverse viewpoints
  • Experience creating and training others on policies and procedures
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals to include international and domestic customers
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • PC proficiency with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must have, or be willing to obtain, an Export Compliance Professional (ECoP®)

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in import/export compliance in the hazardous chemical industry.
  • Holds current certification for 49-CFR and IATA dangerous goods transportation

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for internal and external regulatory compliance matters (e.g., commercial and logistics processes, staff training, vendor interactions, and customer complaints)
  • Oversee the company’s compliance with the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) requirements regarding labels, SDSs, and other related paperwork that accompanies our products.
  • Work closely with the SDS Software Administrator to review, update, and maintain SDS templates and formats to ensure continued regulatory compliance and system accuracy.
  • Remain up to date on federal and state laws related to the organization and update policies accordingly.
  • Conduct compliance audits to evaluate adherence to established policies and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Oversee the maintenance and retention of regulatory reports, registrations, permits, and applications for same
  • Develop and implement an export compliance program to ensure the organization operates in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Utilize the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) for export control and be able to assign appropriate ECCNs for export compliance.
  • Prepare and submit U.S. export license applications and approvals as required; collaborate with Logistics to ensure appropriate export declarations, documentation, and physical marking requirements are applied to all export shipments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
