About The Position

Primary focus is on coordinating the flow of custom parts through various machining and fabrication operations (e.g., milling, turning, welding, sheet metal) to meet customer deadlines while optimizing machine utilization, skilled labor, and materials. Acting as the bridge between Program part requests, shop orders, purchasing, and the machine shop floor, ensuring efficient production in a dynamic environment where jobs vary in complexity, setup times, and priorities.

Requirements

  • Must have computer skills including MS Windows and office products; Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Requires highly developed job knowledge/skills.
  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Production Tracking & Scheduling Track assigned products throughout the production process, including providing Master Schedule weekly updates and status of Work In Process (WIP).
  • Maintain visibility into progress against the overall program schedule (Master Schedule), reporting WIP status to support on-time delivery and risk mitigation.
  • Update Master Schedule for customer delivery status on completed Statement of Work items. Ensure customer-facing delivery commitments are accurately reflected.
  • Plan work queues for Machinists/Tool Makers from Master Schedule. Prioritize and sequence tasks for shop floor personnel based on program priorities.
  • Update to the Machine Shop backlog status queue from Master Schedule. Monitor and communicate capacity constraints or delays.
  • Configuration & Documentation Control Maintain product as-built configuration during build, including ECO (Engineering Change Order) and Redline documentation incorporation.
  • Ensure the physical product matches approved designs; incorporate changes to prevent non-conformances in regulated environments. Assist Configuration Management with documentation control and routing of document updates through L3Harris. Support formal change processes for drawings, specs, and routers.
  • System Queries & Data Management Conduct queries within Control/MRP system to obtain relative information required for production status as requested. Use the MRP/ERP system (e.g., for inventory, BOMs, work orders) to pull real-time data for decision-making or reporting.
  • Inventory & Material Coordination Review Raw Material inventory levels; verify in stock inventory matches Control/MRP. Prevent shortages or discrepancies that could halt production. Maintain CAP Machine cutting tool vending machine inventory. Manage shop-specific consumables/tools for Machinists & Tool Makers.
  • Work Order & Traveler Creation Create Machine Shop Travelers/Work Orders using “Statement of Work” information. Generate detailed routing documents (travelers) that guide manufacturing steps, inspections, and approvals.
  • External & Special Process Coordination Coordinate Outside Services or Special Processes (metal finishing, heat treatment, etc.). Manage vendor/subcontractor workflows for processes not done in-house, ensuring compliance and timing.
  • Shop Floor Support & Maintenance Coordinate with machinists for issues and concerns on WIP. Act as liaison to resolve production bottlenecks or technical problems. Maintain Hardware Installation Area; update current status of WIP (Work in Process). Keep assembly/installation areas organized and status boards current for visibility.
  • Professional & Relational Duties Promote cordial relationships and foster and maintain a favorable business profile with customers, vendors, co-workers, and other professionals. Emphasize teamwork, communication, and positive interactions in a collaborative defense manufacturing environment.
