About The Position

Production Shift Leader - 2nd Shift Employer: Placon - We design and manufacture sustainable, thermoformed plastic packaging used by leading brands nationwide. Location: Plymouth, MN (On-site) Schedule: Monday-Friday, 2:00 PM-11:00 PM (2nd shift) Pay: $61,000-$71,000 per year (salary) Lead a high-performing 2nd shift team to meet safety, quality, and production goals in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You'll supervise and develop Team Members, optimize operational systems and processes, and drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, efficiency, and cost. This role requires the ability to handle conflict and differing opinions in a constructive and professional manner that align with The Placon Way.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in Supervisory Management (or related) and 2+ years of leadership experience; OR 6+ years of leadership experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing/production environment; thermoforming preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to and learn manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication, and listening skills.
  • Comfortable working in a team environment; effective prioritization and time management.
  • Proficient with computers and common office/manufacturing software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with formal quality systems and training facilitation.
  • Hands-on knowledge of SPC and familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma.
  • Commitment to continuing education and personal growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership for production and production support groups.
  • Set clear goals, coach, evaluate performance, and develop people; implement and coordinate training.
  • Stay visible and accessible on the floor to support production, quality, or personnel issues; enforce policies and administer discipline as needed.
  • Control/monitor department cost drivers and model strong communication and leadership behaviors.
  • Implement strategies and practices to achieve annual departmental goals; promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Promote, audit, and support quality systems; ensure compliance with documented procedures and work instructions.
  • Partner with the Production Manager on corrective action investigations and resolution plans.
  • Provide training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Enforce, promote, audit, and continuously improve safety systems and procedures.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions; ensure 5S programs are in place and effective for a clean, organized workplace.
  • Meet daily production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Provide machine/process problem solving and root cause analysis; drive waste reduction and cost savings.
  • Review shift efficiencies (actual vs. standard) and partner with process engineering/support teams to run-to-target.
  • Plan and coordinate weekly staffing (overtime, temporary associates, PTO coverage).
  • Prepare and submit required shift and performance reports.
