About The Position

As technology leader in high voltage bushings, the Trench brand HSP drives the energy transition. HSP US in Charlotte will be the first U.S.-based manufacturing plant of Trench Group. Starting operations in early 2026 the plant will manufacture dry-type bushings (RIS/RIP) with voltages up to 800 kV for the North American market. It will feature full vertical integration and will house one of the most modern and high-performance high-voltage test laboratories in the region. Trench Group will invest more than $60 million in establishing a facility that will manufacture cutting-edge technology to support the expansion of the U.S. power grid infrastructure. Your Mission As the Production Technician - (Machinist) (m/f/d), you will be responsible for defining and executing a best-in-class digitalization strategy across our global manufacturing network. You will drive the transformation towards fully integrated, state-of-the-art Manufacturing 4.0 operations, leveraging ERP, APS, MES, manufacturing applications, and advanced automation technologies.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency with 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC machines
  • Hands-on experience with CAD/CAM programming (Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, or similar)
  • Deep understanding of machining principles, tooling, workholding, and material behavior
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
  • Experience machining resins, polymers, or copper
  • Experience machining tight-tolerance components for industrial, aerospace, or energy applications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort using digital documentation systems
  • High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to quality
  • Technical degree, trade school certification, or equivalent experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC mills and lathes
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
  • Use CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar) to create toolpaths and machining strategies
  • Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, speeds, and feeds for a wide range of materials
  • Perform precision machining for both prototype and production components
  • Conduct in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and CMM-adjacent tools
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, optimize programs, and improve cycle times
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe machining work areas
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure part accuracy and manufacturability
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including tooling upgrades, process optimization, and workflow enhancements
  • Maintain accurate documentation, machining records, and revision control
  • Assist in equipment maintenance, calibration, and reliability programs
